within next month or two.
B. Electronic Presentations on Disc
1. This year’s talks will be taped and audio
will hopefully be merged with video.
2. A disc will be produced for each section
member, available to all other AOAO members, AOAO training programs, students
etc. Charge for non-section members to
be determined based on production costs.
VI. New
Business
A. Officer Criteria: By-Law Change
1. At last year’s meeting, Dr. John Martin made
a motion, seconded by Dr. Bamberger to require passing the CAQ to be an officer
of the hand section beginning the fall of 2002. This would require a By-Law change, and according to the By-Laws,
this “amendment” was sent to the membership prior to this year’s meeting and
voted on at that time.
After
discussion, this amendment was voted down, and the selection criteria remain
unchanged. Officer election remains
open to the entire Section membership.
B. Guest Speaker Honorarium
1. Due to the
special circumstances surrounding this year’s meeting with uncertain travel in
the wake of terrorist actions in the US, as-well-as unfortunate timing of this
year’s ACA Annual Meeting coinciding with the ASSH, the Section voted to give
Dr. John Lubahn an additional $500.00 honorarium.
C. Scientific Paper and Poster Judging
1. Dr. Doug Bobb
requested assistance from Hand Surgery Section members to help the AOAO judge scientific papers and posters. The 2nd VP will assume this role
and will be the contact person and available help the AOAO as necessary. He/she will recruit other members of the Section
if needed.
D. Hand CAQ
1. The current
CAQ Test Writing Committee members are Drs. Howard (Chairman), Bamberger,
Cameron, Kelly and Tobias.
2. This committee
will schedule a conference call ASAP to assign taxonomy coding to each test
question as requested by the AOBOS.
3. The Section
recommended the CAQ be offered by the AOBOS every other year. It was requested the schedule be established
as far in advance as possible so candidates can plan accordingly. Therefore, if it were next given in 2002,
then it would be offered every even year thereafter.
4. It was
recommended information regarding this exam be posted on the Section’s website.
C. Officer Election. Dr.
Mark Trzeciak was elected as third Vice President. He will be in charge of the 2004 meeting. Therefore, the current officers are:
President: James Kelly, D.O., Buffalo, NY
1st VP: Scott Fried, D.O., E. Norriton, PA
2nd VP: Stefan Zachary, D.O., Madison, WI
3rd VP: Mark
